Objectives To study whether systematic reviewers apply procedures to counter-balance some common forms of research malpractice such as not publishing completed research, duplicate publications, or selective reporting of outcomes, and to see whether they identify and report misconduct. Design Cross-sectional analysis of systematic reviews and survey of their authors. Participants 118 systematic reviews published in four journals (Ann Int Med, BMJ, JAMA, Lancet), and the Cochrane Library, in 2013. Main outcomes and measures Number (%) of reviews that applied procedures to reduce the impact of: (1) publication bias (through searching of unpublished trials), (2) selective outcome reporting (by contacting the authors of the original studies), (3) duplicate publications, (4) sponsors' and (5) authors' conflicts of interest, on the conclusions of the review, and (6) looked for ethical approval of the studies. Number (%) of reviewers who suspected misconduct are reported. The procedures applied were compared across journals. Results 80 (68%) reviewers confirmed their data. 59 (50%) reviews applied three or more procedures; 11 (9%) applied none. Unpublished trials were searched in 79 (66%) reviews. Authors of original studies were contacted in 73 (62%). Duplicate publications were searched in 81 (69%). 27 reviews (23%) reported sponsors of the included studies; 6 (5%) analysed their impact on the conclusions of the review. Five reviews (4%) looked at conflicts of interest of study authors; none of them analysed their impact. Three reviews (2.5%) looked at ethical approval of the studies. Seven reviews (6%) suspected misconduct; only 2 (2%) reported it explicitly. Procedures applied differed across the journals. Conclusions Only half of the systematic reviews applied three or more of the six procedures examined. Sponsors, conflicts of interest of authors and ethical approval remain overlooked. Research misconduct is sometimes identified, but rarely reported. Guidance on when, and how, to report suspected misconduct is needed. When insurers' capacity is high, that is, when capacity is basically unconstrained, uncertain lines are allocated comparatively more capacity in relation to premium volume. When capacity is very low, the uncertain (capacity-using) lines are allocated the least capacity. At the same time, one observes withdrawal from those lines or less withdrawal coupled with steep premium increases. By contrast, premiums in relatively predictable lines, such as automobile liability, remain fairly stable. When he testified at Tupac's hearing in February 2013, Reed acknowledged he had seen only two of the seven patients he referenced in his complaint to the board. Reed testified he also talked to several other dentists who'd treated former Tupac patients. It was 12 years and $95,000. when we reminded him of his original statement costs and time lines. During this extended time of bridges replaced and crowns redone, the cost kept rising, This is what instigated the implant surgery. I had been having all this work done by the owner of the dental practice. Everytime I went back to see him there was always something else that needed to be corrected, and so it continued. This dentist was in my mouth to do something every year, and he was fully aware that I suffered from dry mouth. However, in November 2012 he noticed that I had some decay under my front teeth which I thought had been caused by receding gums. He checked that out and then started looking at my other teeth and had some X-rays done and scheduled an appointment for the following week. When we arrived he had us meet him in the consultation room. He explained that there was decay under all of my teeth (that he had crowned and connected with fixed bridges throughout the past years) and that I needed to have all of my teeth removed and would have that done in the next couple of days and that he would use some earlier lower jar implants to hold a removable lower plate while he decided what they would do to replace everything. Since I had been a longtime patient he would do this replacement work for only $40,000. K. Repealed by Acts 2005, No. 127, paragraph2. Lawyer Services Bridgeview

When a cardiologist makes a mistake, this error can give rise to a claim for medical negligence. An Atlanta medical malpractice lawyer should be consulted by a victim of a cardiologist's errors or by family members of those who are killed due to mistakes made by a cardiologist. An attorney can help you to hold the cardiologist accountable and seek fair compensation for losses. Criminal cases against doctors are rare for all these reasons - they are not malpractice cases that get out of control because a prosecutor sticks his nose in - they are the grotesque examples of medical care that is barely medical and not actually care. The University of Hawai'i (UH) has been collaborating with Okinawa Prefectural Chubu Hospital for over 46 years. This collaboration started as a post-World War II effort to increase the physician workforce. At the initiation of the US Army and State Department, the University of Hawai'i was recruited, in cooperation with the government of the Ryukyus and USCAR, to initiate a US style postgraduate clinical training program. The Postgraduate Medical Training Program of University of Hawai'i at Okinawa Chubu Hospital introduced a style of training similar to that in the US by offering a rotating internship. The initial contract had UH establish and run the Postgraduate Medical Training Program of University of Hawaii at Okinawa Central Hospital. After Okinawa's reversion to Japan, under a new contract, UH physicians participated as consultants by providing lectures at grand rounds and guidance to faculty, staff, and students. To date, 895 physicians have completed the University of Hawai'i Postgraduate Medical Training Program with 74 currently training. Approximately 662 (74%) of the trainees have remained in Okinawa Prefecture to practice medicine. As a result, the program has enhanced the physician workforce for the islands of Okinawa and neighbor archipelagos of Miyako and Yaeyama Islands. PMID:24959393
